Producing blog content and taking it serious is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while. Now that I’ve got a little bit of time on my hands, I’m going to start posting regularly. Many of the posts will have a nightlife focus but I may venture into my other passions such as technology, data analysis and web design.
I’ve been conducting quite a lot of research recently, with the intention of trying to paint a picture of the UK nightlife scene. Most notably through the creation of my nightlife discovery platform Out Out, I’ve directly researched the top bars, nightclubs and live music venues in Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. The result is a platform that boasts close to 2000 venues with over 10,000 events imported at any given time and a heap of useful social functionality built in.
Trippy Visions has grown in ways I’ve never imagined. The most recent show on the 15th December was the 15th event since it started back in March 2017. Since then it’s taken me and the team to 8 venues in 4 cities with over 11,000 tickets being sold in total. In those 18 months, I’ve learned a lot about event marketing, having to adapt and find new innovative ways to advertise the events to stay competitive.
I’ve come to believe more just how important knowledge and research is in any industry, and my goal is to learn as much as possible about the nightlife industry as a whole. This means researching such things as nightlife platforms and potential competitors to Out Out, of which there any many. I’m also trying to paint a picture of the big players in each of the categories such as pub operators, bar and nightclub operators, promoters and ticket platforms. And finally, my aim is to understand the electronic music scene from an analytical perspective, identifying who are the top artists and labels to keep an eye on. I haven’t yet explored festivals, but it’s something I’ll get to.
The aim of this blog is to supplement my learning and share with others the journey I’m about to undertake. I’m playing the long game. I won’t achieve my goals overnight, but if I work away at them every day, perhaps in the few years I’ll be closer than I am now. If even one person is inspired and finds success in nightlife as a result of the knowledge I plan to share, I will be wholly satisfied.
